Tornado season runs from March until June, but April showed that it is definitely the peak of tornado season. On Tuesday the Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit by tornadoes causing widespread damage. The mayor of Lancaster, Texas said that about 300 buildings have been damaged in the wake of the storms, reported CNN. More than 47,000 homes and businesses were without power by Tuesday evening. Residents reported that windows were blown out, cars were tossed and roofs were crumbling.
Dallas County spokeswoman Maria Arita stated that, Obviously we're going to have a lot of assessments to make when this is done.
According to Fox, meteorologists believe the storm was due to a slow-moving storm system over northern New Mexico.
