Is There A Jeffrey Epstein Conspiracy? Autopsy Reveals Cause Of Death For Convicted Financier
After much discussion and theorizing, an official cause of death has been released for financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein on Friday: suicide by hanging, according to the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
A source told NBC News that Epstein's autopsy revealed a broken a bone in his neck — an injury that can occur in a suicide by hanging.
The findings should put to rest the many conspiracy theories that cropped up in the wake of Epstein’s death, often involving the many powerful figures said to be friendly with the accused sex trafficker. Epstein had been linked to President Trump, Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.
President Trump had promoted a conspiracy theory in a shared tweet from conservative comedian Terrence Williams that linked Bill and Hillary Clinton to the death of Epstein while in federal custody.
Epstein was found dead in his cell nearly a week ago after seemingly hanging himself. After what appeared to be a prior attempt, Epstein was supposed to be under suicide watch. However, reports after his death revealed that he was not when he died.
Epstein’s death prompted Attorney General William Barr to order his own investigation into the situation. He has since said that there were “serious irregularities” at the facility holding Epstein.
Epstein’s attorneys have said that they will perform their own autopsy in the wake of this result, according to reports.
“No one should die in jail. And no one, not Mr. Epstein who was presumed innocent and had violated no prison disciplinary rule, and not anyone should be imprisoned under the harsh, even medieval conditions at the MCC where Mr. Epstein spent his final hours,” the attorneys said. “His safety was the responsibility of the MCC. It is indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocols.”
Fueled by Epstein’s association with many high-profile individuals and the frustration over the fact that he would not be able to name names in court, many conspiracies sprung up online after Epstein’s abrupt death.
