  • A body language expert says Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne are the two women Prince Philip is closest to

The two women Prince Philip is most fond of share his sense of humor and like his "old-world" manners, according to a body language expert.

Judi James recently said Prince Philip is closest to his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and daughter, Princess Anne, 70. After examining the way he acts around them, the body language expert gave her theory on why the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, may feel closer to them compared to all other women in his life.

"The two women closest to the prince: his wife and his daughter Anne, are both stoic non-complainers infused with a dedication to duty and hard work," James told Express U.K.

"They seem to share Philip’s sense of humor and admire his old-world, masculine gallantry in a way that a more modern woman might not," she explained.

The expert also analyzed Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II's first meeting decades ago. She claimed that the duke, then-18, seemed "awkward" during the encounter and was "less enthusiastic" about the idea of looking after Queen Elizabeth, then-13, and her younger sister Princess Margaret.

"It’s questionable whether Philip would really have relished his role as entertainment officer to two young girls though, and with his shoulders hunched and his head down the suggestion is that he might have been less enthusiastic about the reason for their first meeting and be feeling slightly awkward," James said of the Queen and the duke's first meeting.

However, she said that Queen Elizabeth, at a young age, had already started to admire the man whom she later married.

"Elizabeth still had to [grow] into the woman Philip fell in love with but her own body language here suggests she might have already been over-awed by the tall, dashing blond cadet in his naval uniform," James continued.

The body language expert also described Prince Philip as an "old-fashioned alpha male," a trait that she thinks may have had an impact on how he viewed royal brides like Prince Andrew's ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. But although Prince Philip is not very close to the younger generations of royal brides, he is said to have "warmed" up to Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, per the report.

Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge were once photographed looking at each other while laughing during the Trooping the Colour in 2017. According to James, the pictured showed a great bond between the two royals.

"This intensity of eye-gaze defines this as a contagious smile, forged to encourage a complimentary response in the other person and Kate's grin shows he's found the perfect partner in crime here," James said of Middleton and Prince Philip.
