A third-party retailer now accepts pre-orders for the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5, even though the game company itself hasn’t announced the console yet.

According to German media site PC Games Hardware, retailer Media Markt Sweden is now accepting pre-orders for the upcoming video game console that’s been hyping players up with its specs and expected capabilities. The retailer’s pre-order price, however, is more likely to lower the excitement because it is selling the yet-to-be-announced console for 9999 SEK or about $1,054.

The German media site noted that while some people might think the listing is a joke, it’s a fact that the retailer didn’t take it down after it was discovered more than a day ago shows that it’s likely not. The webpage where players can pre-order the console is still up and running as of time of writing.

Appealing?

Sony’s Mark Cerny earlier said that the PS5 will have an “appealing” price considering its powerful specs under the hood. Market experts also said earlier that the PS5 will be sold for a very affordable price at around $399. It’s worth noting, however, that these announcements were made before video game consoles were listed among the goods that would see a higher tariff as they came from China.

Despite the 25 percent higher tariff, the $1,000 pre-order price still appears to be more expensive than what analysts and fans have come to expect. The lack or a release or shipping date doesn’t help Media Markt’s listing either.

Wccftech noted that the price appears to be a placeholder, given that Sony hasn’t announced an official release date or pricing at the moment. Hopefully, the placeholder price doesn’t discourage players from waiting for the PS5 as it is known to have some of the most powerful gaming system specs to date.

Players who saw the reports reacted to it, saying they believe the list price is but a placeholder. Some of them believe it will likely be sold for a lower price at $600 or $500.

Specs

According to Cerny, the PS5 features a 7nm Zen 2 eight-core CPU based on AMD’s Ryzen chips as well as a custom GPU based on the Radeon’s Navi chips. The gaming behemoth also supports ray tracing, 8K resolution, and will also be compatible with PS VR. Cerny also revealed that the PS5 will SSDs for faster loading times.
