Thomas Markle Insists He Walked Meghan Down The Aisle During First Wedding
Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle Sr., insists he was present during her first wedding.
The Duchess of Sussex's dad canceled his attendance at the royal wedding at the last minute following his photo scandal. Previous reports claimed that Thomas actually missed two big events in Markle's life as he was reportedly also not present when the former "suits" actress tied the knot with her ex-husband, Trevor Engelson.
However, according to Thomas, he was actually there. He insisted that it was him and Markle's mom, Doria Ragland, who walked her down the beach where the ceremony was held.
"There are no images of me frolicking on the beach because, at the time, I was well into my 60s and not much into frolicking," Thomas said (via Daily Mail). "But I was very much there and there were more than 100 people there to witness it. Doria and I walked Meghan down the beach together."
"Of course I have photographs of Meghan and me at her first wedding but I choose not to share them because I think that would be in poor taste and offensive to Prince Harry. We booked out the whole resort and I was more than happy to contribute to the cost of my daughter's first wedding," he added.
According to Thomas, he sold a bunch of his Facebook shares at a low price to contribute to Markle and Engelson's wedding. That stock would have been a fortune now. However, he has no regrets because he's happy to contribute. He also insisted that he's not expecting his royal daughter to pay him back.
"I’m not broke, I'm not bitter and I never expected Meghan to pay me back for anything. I was happy as a father to give her a great education. I was happy to provide the best start in life to all my children. Of course, I never expected her to pay me back for her schooling," Thomas said.
In related news, according to Sarah Grossbart of E! News, if there's one person whom Markle can count on to never let her down, it would be her mom, Ragland.
"She [Ragland] is the one member of Meghan's family important enough to receive not only an invite to the May 19 vows, but a prime seat near Queen Elizabeth, the relative who would never think to sell her daughter out or reveal private details of her tea with the Queen," Grossbart wrote.
