KEY POINTS

  • Limiting turnovers and grabbing rebounds need to be atop the Warriors' list of adjustments going into Game 4
  • Getting Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole off to a hot start will increase their chances of winning
  • Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson need to play more minutes if they want to win the finals series

San Francisco -- The Golden State Warriors were almost able to mount a comeback in the third quarter of Game 3 behind Stephen Curry’s 15-point outburst but failed to sustain it as they lost the game, 118-100

Now facing a 2-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, the Warriors have been able to weather multiple storms throughout their run this season.

Golden State needs to make a ton of adjustments, and it has to be done as soon as Game 4.

Here are some possible changes that they could make as they hope to even out the series.

Limit And Generate Turnovers, Increase Rebounds

The Warriors’ fast-paced offense has led them to putting up disturbingly high turnover numbers throughout this season, and they were able to survive thus far with that strategy in mind.

However, Game 3 saw them play as sloppily as they could have all season long and it became apparent that they were not going able to take the series lead.

They were also outrebounded by the Celtics on the offensive glass, 15-6, and 47-31 overall.

Taking better care of the ball and putting in the extra effort to gang rebound is likely going to be a major point of emphasis for them going into Game 4.

Get Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole Going

Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry combined for 56 of the Warriors’ 100 points, but they did not have much help for most of the game.

Andrew Wiggins had 18 points and seven rebounds in 40 minutes of action, while backup guard Jordan Poole only put up 10 points in 24 minutes--making only one of his four attempts from beyond the arc.

The Celtics are fully aware that head coach Steve Kerr’s offense will be heavily reliant on “The Splash Brothers” putting up big numbers, so their general game plan focused on shutting down the so-called “others” on the Warriors and it worked.

Kerr needs to find a way to better integrate the first-time All-Star in Wiggins and Poole as both men have the capability of lessening the load for Curry and Thompson’s sakes.

Shifting their attack to a more balanced offense that gets the two contributors into their groove will go a long way in them securing a Game 4 victory.

Shorter Rest Time For Key Contributors

Without a doubt, Curry is putting on the best performance of his career during the series as he guns for Finals MVP honors should the Warriors win it all after he exploded for 15 points in the third quarter of Game 3.

The problem here is that Curry’s efforts on offense will be for naught as carrying the workload is going to tire him out once the game reaches its most critical stages.

In relation to the previous point, Wiggins and Poole will need to carry part of Curry’s burden in order for him to have more time to rest in the first half which will keep him fresh following halftime.

This postseason, Curry has only broken the 40-minute mark once which was in their series-clinching Game 6 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Thompson himself noted how important Curry is, and Kerr may want to shorten the time spent by both the Warriors talisman and Thompson as they look to win their fourth NBA title.
