The Oklahoma City Thunder are expected to rebuild although most of the attention has been centered on Chris Paul. Most are aware that the 34-year-old guard will be dealt with soon but it appears he is not the only on the NBA trading block.

Adams is a quality big man that can surely help any NBA team looking for toughness in the middle. He is notorious for his defensive presence, ability to control the boards and chip in points. However, there are a couple of things teams that are reportedly scaring teams off.

Sean Deveney of Heavy.com reported that Adams has two years remaining on his current contract worth $53.3 million. Aside from that, the Thunder are seeking a draft pick, young player and salary relief in exchange. One unnamed league executive has already stated that the asking price is too high.

"It’s tough to take on his contract and give up picks and players. Most teams are pretty well set at the center spot now, you have a big guy and you have your small lineup. You can’t just take on a contract like that. There isn’t a big number of teams who could take him,” said the anonymous league executive.

The 12th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft will undoubtedly be a good addition to any team. However, it appears most teams are already set as far as their middlemen are concerned. Things could change in the course of the coming NBA season with the Thunder possibly softening up on their demands. Until that time comes, Adams will have to go with the flow.

Also, that stance could be tied up to the Chris Paul situation. As mentioned in a previous post, the Miami Heat have been linked to the nine-time NBA All-Star. Unfortunately, CP3's hefty contract ($124 million three year deal) is standing in the way. Some teams may be wary of that package, especially considering that the fourth overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft has been beset by injuries the past years.

Once the Chris Paul issue is resolved, the Thunder can move on to the next. That could be Steven Adams or someone else, depending on who team general manager Sam Presti and head coach Billy Donovan feels should be moved.
