Tiger Woods Update: Return From Hospital Could Be On The Horizon, Golfer Says
Tiger Woods’ lengthy hospital stay after his car accident could soon be coming to an end. The golf legend might be able to return home if he makes enough progress over the next week, according to PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy.
“I’ve spoken to him a little bit,” McIlroy said on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday. “He’s doing better. I think all the guys have reached out to him. Hopefully, if things go well over the next week or so, he might be able to get home and start recovery at home, which would be great for him. See his kids, see his family.
“But yeah, he’s doing better. And I think all of us are wishing him a speedy recovery at this point.”
Woods has been in the hospital since Feb. 23 when he was the lone driver in a single-car rollover accident on a road near Los Angeles. The 45-year-old underwent emergency surgery on his right leg later that day at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center after suffering open fractures affecting his tibia and fibula bones.
Woods was moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A., where he continues to recover.
McIlroy and other members of the PGA Tour wore Wood’s signature red and black at the WGC Workday Championship in Bradenton, Florida after the golfer’s car crash.
“All the guys got together...'What can we do to send a message to Tiger to let him know that we’re thinking about him?' A sign of solidarity, how we appreciate him so much, everything he’s done for the game,” McIlroy told Jimmy Fallon.
“A very small way to show that we are thinking about him, and hopefully, we see him back out here again soon.”
It’s too early to know when Woods might even attempt a comeback to competitive golf. Prior to the crash, Woods was recovering from back surgery that he underwent in December.
Woods had been hoping to return for the Masters in April.
