Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson: What To Know About The PPV Golf Clash

Two golf legends will go head-to-head over Thanksgiving weekend when Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson face off in a $9 million winner-take-all event at the Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Promoted as "The Match," the pay-per-view event, which is expected to cost viewers about $40, will be produced by WarnerMedia and HBO will reportedly have a 24/7 countdown series ahead of the Friday, Nov. 23 showdown. The matchup is expected to include challenges and side bets such as the "longest drive, closest to the hole, longest putt and closest out of a bunker," according to ESPN.

Woods and Mickelson are arguably the two best golfers of their generation, with Woods owning 14 majors and Mickelson having won five.

Woods, 42, claims that the event will be a "fun" showcase of golf on a different platform.

"It's 18 holes, so anybody can win an 18-hole boat race. We're going to have fun doing something that's never been done before," he said.

The 48-year-old Mickelson, who recently signed up for social media site Twitter, began tweeting on Wednesday and has begun promoting the event with a pinned tweet of the banner. Mickelson is already closing in on 200,000 followers.

In the most recent major, the PGA Championship, Woods showed that he is once again on a force on the tour, finishing second to Brooks Koepka. Mickelson failed to make the cut after shooting a 73 and 71.

The pay-per-view event has raised eyebrows, as it features two of the most famous golfers in the world. However, neither has captured a major since Mickelson won the British Open in 2013.

"To some, it’s about growing the game. To others it still sounds like two aging millionaires looking to make an extra buck," wrote George Willis of the New York Post on Thursday.

Woods has $113.5 million in career winnings, while Mickelson has $87.7 million.
