Tigers keep Galarraga with one-year deal
Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga, who missed a perfect game last season because of an umpire's blown call, has agreed to a one-year contract, thus avoiding arbitration, the team said Tuesday.
The Tigers did not release financial terms but Major League Baseball's official website (www.mlb.com) said the deal was worth $2.3 million but is not guaranteed.
Galarraga lost a perfect game last June when umpire Jim Joyce missed a call at first base on what would have been the final out.
The 29-year-old, Venezuelan-born right-hander finished the season with a 4-9 record and a 4.49 earned run average and has a 23-26 career mark with a 4.58 ERA.
