A Tiktoker has gone viral on social media after sharing a video claiming a customer in California brought back a packet of frozen burgers that had a cancer warning label on it.

The Tiktoker who identifies herself as a 22-year-old cashier at Kroger posted the video to her account claiming a customer has returned a box of frozen White Castle burgers saying it cause cancer. The video that has fetched more than 3.2 million views has brought out serious debates about food safety, Daily Dot reported.

"I’ve tried their burgers one time and it made me sick, never again," the TikToker captioned the video. The video shows a packet of frozen burgers while the overlay reads: "A customer returned this because she said it causes cancer."

As the camera zooms in on the packet, the label stamped on the back could be seen while the overlay says: "she was not lying." The video then shows the Proposition 65 label that reads: “Consuming this product can expose you to furfuryl alcohol, which is known to California to cause cancer."

Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The list that was first published in 1987 covers around 900 naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals.

Furfuryl alcohol shown on the label of the video is a food contaminant that gives a brown color and flavor to frozen or prepackaged meals. It is found in significant amounts in many thermally processed foods such as coffee, fruit juices and baked goods.

Meanwhile, many viewers came up with a view that such cancer-warning labels are common on many food items sold in California owing to the Proposition 65 mandate. "That label is on everything in CA. It doesn’t cause cancer, it does cause diarrhea," a viewer commented. "California says everything can cause cancer. Literally every tool in hardware stores and 80% of frozen food," another wrote.

Some viewers also discussed how almost all processed food is unhealthy. "At least it warns you. Most products that cause cancer don’t even say it," another said.
