KEY POINTS

  • The Timberwolves will look to continue their mastery over the Rockets in their regular-season series
  • Houston is staring at a 14th consecutive loss unless they can overcome Minnesota
  • The T-Wolves will continue to miss its twin towers of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert

The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to extend their winning run to three games when they visit the Houston Rockets on Monday, January 23 at the Toyota Center.

The T-Wolves will aim for a repeat after winning over the Rockets last time out, 113-104.

It was their second win after slipping past the Toronto Raptors last Thursday, January 19, 128-126.

A player that the Rockets will need to put in check is Anthony Edwards as the 21-year-old guard erupted for 44 points against the Rockets on Saturday, January 21.

It was his first 40-point game for the season.

"We talked yesterday about how important this game was for us, how he needed to set the tone," Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. "He certainly did that. He was special today, both ends of the floor, really."

Aside from the heavy scoring, Edwards also had six rebounds and four assists in that win over the Rockets. Backing him up was D'Angelo Russell who had 23 points and eight assists.

Minnesota is scoring 115.3 points per game, which is 11th in the league.

Moreover, the Timberwolves have an offensive rating of 113.2, 15th in the league.

Defensively, they are limiting opponents to 115.6 points per game, with a defensive rating of 113.2.

For the Rockets, their losing streak is now at 13 games and there would be nothing better than pulling off a win to stop the bleeding.

To do so, Rockets coach Stephen Silas singled out their turnovers as something they need to address.

"Turnovers were the story of the game," Silas stated. "Twenty-three turnovers in a nine-point game kill you, not to mention 14 missed free throws."

Alperen Sengun led the way for Houston with 19 points and 16 rebounds in a double-double performance.

He was backed up by Eric Gordon and Kenyon Martin Jr., who had 16 and 15 points respectively.

The Rockets are averaging 109.7 points per game, second to last in the NBA.

Moreover, they own an atrocious offensive rating in the league right now and are in last place with a 109.1 grade.

On the defensive end, the Rockets are surrendering 117.5 points per contest. Meanwhile, their defensive rating is not that good as well, sitting at the 28th spot with a 117.1 grade.

The Timberwolves are -6.5 favorites to repeat over the Rockets, who are at +6.5.

The moneyline set for this encounter is -252 for Minnesota and +208 for Houston.

The game will be telecast over the NBA League Pass and via fuboTV at 8:00 PM ET.
