KEY POINTS

  • The Timberwolves will try to stretch their winning run when they host the Jazz
  • The Jazz and T-Wolves are looking to break the deadlock in their regular-season series
  • Minnesota will continue to miss the services of their three vital cogs on the floor

The Minnesota Timberwolves will gun for their third-straight win and sixth straight at home when they host a dangerous Utah Jazz quintet on Monday, January 16 at the Target Center.

The two teams are coming off contrasting last assignments.

The T-Wolves won over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 110-102, while the Jazz is coming off a close loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Jazz is coming off a heartbreak loss to the 76ers no thanks to Joel Embiid, 117-118.

The Cameroonian converted on a jump shot with 5.7 seconds to go to lead Philly to victory.

"I made a tough shot but it shouldn't have come to that after we were up by so much," Embiid said, who finished 30 points and seven rebounds.

This spoiled the game-high 38-point effort of Jordan Clarkson, who also hauled down three boards.

Backing him up was Talen Horton-Tucker who tallied 20 points and six rebounds coming off the bench.

The Jazz are averaging 117.4 points per game and shooting 47.1% from the field. They also own an offensive rating of 115.9, fourth in the league.

On the defensive side, Utah is giving up 116.7 points per game on 48.2% shooting. They have a defensive rating of 114.9, 26th in the league.

The Timberwolves, on the other hand, are coming off a 110-102 win over the Cavs.

In that game, Anthony Edwards led the way with 26 points and seven assists.

Furthermore, Minnesota got ample support from the bench for the undermanned quintet.

Naz Reid chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Jaylen Nowell added 16 markers and four carons.

"I thought Naz really came alive in that second half," Timberwolves coach Chris Finch stated. "I thought he played well all game, but he really stepped up in Rudy's absence, gave us some emotional play as well with the big dunks."

Looking at the injury report, listed as day-to-day against the Jazz are Edwards, Rudy Gobert and Taurean Prince.

Karl-Anthony Towns is also out with a right calf strain.

The Timberwolves are scoring 114.8 points per game and shooting 49.4% from the field, the third-highest field goal percentage.

Defensively, Minnesota is giving up 115.2 points per match and owns a defensive rating of 112.7, which is 13th in the league.

The Timberwolves are -2.5 spread favorites to prevail over the Jazz, who are at +2.5.

The Moneyline is -140 for Minnesota and +118 for Utah.

The game will be shown on NBA League Pass and fuboTV at 4:10 PM ET.
