Timberwolves Rumors: Former Warriors’ coach Don Nelson to interview
Don Nelson, former head coach of the Golden State Warriors, may interview for the head coaching vacancy of the Minnesota Timberwolves as early as Thursday or Friday of this week, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Nelson is most famous for his innovative fast tempo offenses referred to as Nellie Ball. However, his teams have also lacked defense.
Besides two coaching stints with the Warriors, Nelson has coached with the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks.
Nelson has taken several teams to the NBA playoffs, but never won an NBA title. He also passed Lenny Wilkens for first place on the all-time NBA win list with 1,333 wins last year.
Timberwolves owner David Kahn has been looking for a new head coach ever since parting ways with Kurt Rambis, who went 27-102 during his tenure.
The Timberwolves have a young team anchored by NBA All-Star Kevin Love, who will be joined by recent number two draft pick Derrick Williams out of Arizona. The Wolves will also finally get the services of Ricky Rubio, who they drafted in fifth overall 2009 from Spain, but was delayed coming to the team.
