Timothée Chalamet Drops His First Look As Willy Wonka: 'Suspense Is Terrible' [Photos]
Timothée Chalamet dropped his first look from the highly anticipated movie "Wonka." The actor will portray the iconic character Willy Wonka in Warner Bros' upcoming prequel to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
Chalamet, 25, took to Instagram on Sunday evening to share two photos from the sets of "Wonka," which is a musical fantasy movie helmed by Paul King. In the first photo, the actor could be seen donning the signature hat of the fictional character.
He wore a red jacket with floral print on the collar and a multicolored scarf around his neck. The actor was looking away from the camera as he posed for the photo.
The second snap was a close-up of the character's famous cane, which was opened from the top and a mysterious purple box wrapped as a gift was placed on it.
"The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last," the actor wrote, along with "WONKA" and chocolate emojis. The caption was a reference to a famous line from the 1971 movie "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," which was an adaptation of Roald Dahl's iconic novel.
The first look was received well by both celebs and fans.
Actress Kiernan Shipka commented, "OH MY GOD," while French fashion designer Haider Ackermann wrote, "let it last !!!" and added a heart emoji. Many fans praised the actor for his look as young Wonka.
The movie will revolve around a young Wonka and his life before starting the chocolate factory.
This is not the first time Warner Bros. is recreating the Wonka world. In 2005, Johnny Depp played Wonka's character in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which was directed by Tim Burton. However, the upcoming movie will feature Wonka's younger years based on Dahl's 1964 novel.
Wonka's character was first played by actor Gene Wilder in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." Chalamet is currently filming the "Wonka" movie and it is slated to release on March 17, 2023.
The actor will be next seen in a comedy movie, "Don't Look Up," which is scheduled to release on Dec. 10.
