Almost a week after the monumental verdict in the Harvey Weinstein case, another Hollywood star has been accused of sexually assaulting a teenager. Timothy Hutton, the Academy Award-winning actor, is being accused of raping a 14-year-old girl named Sera Johnston in the year 1983 while shooting for his movie “Iceman.”
Hutton has finally broken his silence on the accusations and revealed that he is thinking of filing a defamation case against Johnston and the publication (BuzzFeed News) that published her allegations on their website.
In a statement obtained by Deadline, the 59-year-old star explained how he has been targeted by Johnston for the past two-and-a-half years to draw out “millions” of dollars from him. The “Ordinary People” stat further claimed that Johnston threatened him to give her money or else she would charge him with a “false allegation” of sexual assault.
The actor completely denies all the accusations and noted that it is one of the many “extortion attempts” by Johnston.
“For the past two-and-a-half-year, I have been the target of multiple extortion attempts by a woman named Sera Dale Johnston to extract millions of dollars from me. She threatened that if I did not meet her demands, she would go to the press with a false allegation that I sexually assaulted her 37 years ago in Canada,” Hutton said.
Johnston, on Tuesday, told BuzzFeed News that she was just 14 when Hutton invited her and two of her friends into his hotel room. The Canadian ex-model further stated that Hutton and one of his friends sexually assaulted her and undressed her “like a doll.”
Johnston told the media outlet that she pleaded a lot, but Hutton did not listen and continued doing what he wanted to. In conclusion, the former model shared that she held it all inside her for so many years and did not come forward until after the “Me Too” movement became huge because she did not think anyone would believe her.
Meanwhile, Hutton revealed that he knew Johnston would go to the press with false charges and as soon as he got to know about it, he went to the FBI and filed a “criminal complaint” against the ex-model for extortion. The youngest recipient of the Best Supporting Actor in the Oscars history concluded by saying that he will keep on “fighting” and expose Johnston really soon.
The star’s attorney also issued a statement and noticed that his client will be sending a “legal notice” to BuzzFeed News seeking to retract the article. If the publication refuses to retract the article, Hutton will take all the necessary steps.
In response to Hutton’s statement, Variety obtained a statement from BuzzFeed News that revealed the media outlet is standing by its report.
