Tinder has been operating a special members-only version of the app called Tinder Select. The app is intended for elite users that are popular on the platform or are celebrities and CEOs, while some members are just really attractive.

The existence of Tinder Select was first reported by TechCrunch. Tinder has apparently started inviting people on the exclusive layer of the app, and those invited are able to nominate other users as well. The site says that Tinder Select has been around for almost six months at the very least.

One way of ensuring that Tinder Select retains its member-only platform is that users who are nominated to get an invite won’t be able to nominate others onto the platform. That said, Tinder Select membership appears to be strictly invite-only.

There really is no clear indication on how Tinder decides who to invite onto Tinder Select. However, TechCrunch has boiled it down to the “generally attractive” and “relatively high-profile.”

Tinder Select lives right on the regular Tinder app. Members who’ve already been invited can simply toggle Tinder Select right on the top of the normal Tinder app.

Tinder Select looks pretty similar to the regular version of the app. But the some of the designs of the user interface has been enhanced to fit in with the members-only feel.

Instead of Tinder’s flame logo, a navy blue “S” is present on top of the app. The signature orange accents of the app has also been replaced by the color blue.

This isn’t the first time that Tinder has tried to attract celebrities to use the dating app. Back in 2014, the company introduced verified profiles. At the time, celebrities on Tinder complained that it was hard to get dates through the app as a lot of people thought they were using fake profiles.

With Tinder Select, it appears as though Tinder is providing celebrities and other high-profile users a more private way of dating online. Tinder, however, isn’t really the first dating service that’s only for “elite” users.

Dating service The League, for example, will require interested users to apply for an account. The League will vet users’ educational and professional backgrounds based on their Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.

There’s no word yet if Tinder Select will ever be made available more widely, and it doesn’t really look like that’s going to happen. A spokesperson from Tinder referred to Tinder Select as "an early test," but declined to comment further, as reported by Mashable.
