Tipster Tips: PlayStation 5 Codenamed 'Prospero,' Leaks Pixelated Photos
Rumors are the life blood of forums that, in turn, feeds the gaming community with their daily serving of what's good and what's not.
Speculations around the PlayStation 5, for example, can be seen from a mile away. But while these news didn't exactly came from the proverbial horse's mouth, they can still play with the mind of those who are eagerly anticipating Sony's next-generation console.
A new leak regarding the PS 5 came by way of Tech Radar. It said that a tipster, who claimed to be working on a title for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox's Project Scarlett, bombarded Gizmodo's inbox with a ton of particulars about Sony's gaming gear.
Moving forward to the juicy part, the source's tipster sent two images, but their resolutions weren't enough to get past the editor's desk. Still, Gizmodo described both of them for the benefit of their readers.
The first illustration depicted a device with a two-tone paint job. It was mostly silver, but the parts that wasn't covered are encased in black plastic. They also pointed a “visible” portion that included the familiar “five gill-like vents” on the side and the v-shaped design.
The second image was even less legible, although the leakster said that they had to play around with the brightness and gamma. Gizmodo did, and it revealed “PROTOTYPE 1 NOT FOR SALE.” Below it are small LED lights with the label, “STATUS 2,” while beside the lights are three buttons.
Of course, it was pixelated, but they were able to distinguish the first and it read “STANDBY.” The remaining two, on the other hand, weren't as clear, but Gizmodo saw “RE,” pointing to a probable “Reset” or “Record” button. The last came with “EJE,” so it's kind of safe to say that it'll be the “Eject” button. Under the buttons appeared to be a DVD or Blu-Ray slot.
Tech Radar meanwhile extended the tipster when he said that the PS 5 will be codenamed “Prospero.” Along this line, the tipster further suggested that developers have been wrapping their hands on a PS 5 prototype since 2018, but the “current dev console” was delivered to them this summer.
Another mouth-watering detail the tipster leaked is that the PS 5 and Project Scarlett will have cameras to make way for streamers to do their thing and make a living. Unfortunately, a Microsoft representative denied this rumor about any camera technology “and that none has been delivered to developers in any form.”
Had it been true, Sony and Microsoft would be battling it out to entice players to join their camp and stream their games using some powerful camera. But then again, it went down the drain.
If it were up to their fans, it would be a feast to see a revolutionary camera on either end. Streaming is big business, and Sony and Microsoft would want to exploit that in their upcoming consoles.
