TLC Blasts Rihanna’s Racy Outfit Choices: ‘Every Time I See You, You Don’t Have To Be Naked’
Wendy Williams wasn’t the only person unimpressed with Rihanna’s sparkling, skin-baring gown at the CFDA Awards.
In an interview with Australia’s HSV-7, the remaining members of TLC shared their feelings about Rihanna’s often barely-there ensembles. T. Boz and Chilli appeared on the station’s “Sunrise on Friday” show ahead of the group’s sold-out show in Sydney.
While talking about artists that use raunchy images and sex to sell and promote their music, T. Boz and Chilli called out Rihanna, who has become known for her risqué personal style.
‘Every time I see you you don’t have to be naked,’ T-Boz said.
‘It’s hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh TLC must be jealous’, but I call a spade a spade,’ T-Boz added.
‘We became the biggest-selling girl group of all time with our clothes on, and that says a lot,’ Chilli chimed in.
‘We could go around too with booby cakes [breasts] out all day long,’
T. Boz and Chilli aren’t the only ones to take issue with Rihanna’s wardrobe, though. On the June 3 episode of her talk show, Wendy Williams slammed Rihanna and the sheer, Swarovski crystal-embellished Adam Selman gown she wore to the 2014 CFDA Awards. Rihanna was honored with the 2014 Fashion Icon award at the event held in New York City on June 2.
“As far as I’m concerned, she’s totally inappropriate for walking out of the house with this outfit on,” Williams said. “You know this is the kind of outfit that when you invite all your friends over and you’re hosting your down-low sex party, then you wear this outfit, and you smoke your blunts out of a cigarette holder, and you walk around like you own the joint. But you don’t walk out of the house like this. And here’s the thing -- since when is public nudity OK?”
She added that she doesn't think Rihanna is a fashion icon.
“Rihanna is a risk taker. I don’t really consider her a fashion icon. I consider her a risk taker and there’s nothing wrong with that,” Williams said.
