In a tragic incident, a 9-month-old boy drowned in a bathtub after the child's mother, who was giving him a bath, got distracted. The incident took place Monday in Harris County, Texas.

Authorities said they received a call Monday afternoon about an incident at a residence. When authorities and emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a baby unconscious and unresponsive. The child's mother said she was bathing the child and a 2-year-old together in the tub. For a brief period of time, the mother left the room. When she came back, she found the toddler face down in the tub.

The baby was transported to Texas Children's Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

Child Protection Services were notified about the incident. Authorities said an investigation was underway. It remained unclear if charges will be filed against the mother.

In a similar incident last week, an 8-month-old Bronx girl was in a critical condition after nearly drowning when her mom left her alone in a bathtub with the water running. Officials arrived at the scene and found the child on the living room floor next to her panicked 23-year-old mom. The mother said she put her daughter in the tub and then left her alone for a “couple of minutes” with the water running. When she returned the baby was face down in the bathwater. The woman pulled the baby from the tub and brought her into the living room following which she called 911.
