Tolar Texas Storm Knocks Out Electricity Indefinitely, Causes Severe Damage

Tolar city in Hood County, Texas, was entirely knocked out of power after a strong storm brought in heavy rains Wednesday evening, officials said. The start of the school year, which was scheduled for August 18, was postponed until 10 a.m. ET due to the outages. The district has alerted of a two-hour delay for buses.

Officials from the city, which lies 10 miles west of Granbury, detailed the damage caused by straight-line winds and heavy rains, reported WFAA.

Several trees were uprooted, power lines were damaged, and structures including school buildings, the post office, and several homes were destroyed in the storm. The level of destruction is yet to be assessed.

The Hood County Sheriff's Office told the outlet that crews are working to restore power across the city. However, it's unsure as to how long the restoration would take.

The city alerted its residents to conserve water to avoid shortages in case the power outages take longer to resolve.

Sheriff Roger Deeds said windows were blown out after the storm came in around 6 p.m. ET, CBS reported. Volunteer fire departments from Tolar and Granbury are working together to clear debris from roads.
