Tom Brady Played The Entire 2020 Season With A Fully Torn MCL
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady played the entire 2020 NFL Season with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The report states Brady injured his knee in his final season with the New England Patriots and his injury gradually worsened over time. Brady, who was not listed on the injury report last season, underwent surgery to repair his knee in late February after winning his record seventh Super Bowl.
Brady did not disclose specifics about the injury, only saying “it was pretty serious.” Brady detailed he had been dealing with the issue since April or May and "something certainly needed to be done at the end of the year," Brady said.
Buccaneers Quarterback coach Clyde Christensen believed the injury affected Brady all season, saying it was a “nagging nuisance.”
“I don’t think he was 100 percent last year,” Christensen said, after the Bucs won Super Bowl LV, Brady later told Christensen he was going to get his knee fixed up and he was going to be better next year.
The 43-year-old QB won his fifth Super Bowl MVP award after knocking off his biggest contemporaries in the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees, the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers, and the Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes.
The Bucs became just the seventh wildcard team to win the Super Bowl, and the first team to win one in their own stadium in their 31-9 victory over the defending champion Chiefs.
Brady passed for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns last season while leading the Bucs to an 11-5 record. It was the team’s first playoff birth in 13 years.
Brady has a net worth reported to be over $250 million, making him the wealthiest NFL player.
