Tom Hanks has revealed that he is ready to take the COVID-19 vaccine publicly to encourage the people of America to take part in the extensive vaccination program when it becomes available.

While making an appearance on the latest episode of the “Today Show,” the 64-year-old actor voiced his opinion on the arrival of the vaccine and noted that he and his wife Rita Wilson will be getting vaccinated long after those who badly need it.

“We’ll be getting long after everybody who truly needs to get it. Yeah, we had it (COVID-19) and it was a tough couple of 10 days. But I think what’s more important is the second half of the COVID-19 formula, that we didn’t give it to anybody,” Hanks said during the interview.

The “Greyhound” star also noted that they follow all the safety protocols and wear masks at all times to prevent the spread of the disease. He and his wife were the first Hollywood celebrites to be diagnosed with the deadly disease back in March while shooting a movie in Australia.

“We wore masks and we still do. Not just that we don’t catch it again but so that you don’t give it to somebody else in case you are one of those kinds of asymptomatic carriers,” Hanks noted.

When asked if he would be ready to take the vaccine live on TV, Hanks simply replied, “Yeah, Sure.”

His comments come after a plethora of politicians, including president-elect Joe Biden, took the shots on live television. Former presidents like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have also said that they will take the shots publicly to ensure the public that it is safe.

The acclaimed actor also discussed how his family is going to celebrate the occasion of Christmas amid the pandemic. Hanks explained that the celebration will be a little on the “muted side” because of his father’s death. However, the family would still decorate the traditional Christmas tree and go out shopping to mark the special occasion.

“I’ve got a couple of things. So, I’m gonna be hitting whatever stores are open,” Hanks added.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Hanks will be next seen in Paul Greengrass’ upcoming movie “News of the World.”

The movie will be available for streaming in 2021.
