Tony Awards 2012: Nominations Led by 'Once,' 'Porgy and Bess' and 'Death of a Salesman' [FULL LIST]
Nominations for the 2012 Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning, and there was plenty of love for the musicals Once, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess and the revival of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman.
Once, based on the 2006 Irish musical film of the same name, leads this year's Tonys with 11 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director, and Best Lead Actor and Actress in a Musical for Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti, respectively.
The Broadway revival of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess nabbed 10 nominations, including Best Director, Best Costume and Best Lead Actor, Norm Lewis. Co-stars Phillip Boykin and David Alan Grier will also be dueling it out in the same category, as both are nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
As predicted by many, Philip Seymour Hoffman received a nomination in the Best Lead Actor category for his role as Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. Andrew Garfield (yes, the same face behind the new Spider-Man film franchise) scored a Best Featured Actor nomination for his portrayal of Biff Loman. Hoffman is up against James Corden (One Man, Two Guvnors), James Earl Jones (Gore Vidal's The Best Man), Frank Langella (Man and Boy) and John Lithgow (The Columnist).
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, the most expensive Broadway musical ever made, received two nominations, both in the design department (scenic and costume).
The 66th Tony Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, will take place June 10 at the Beacon Theatre in New York and will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
