Tony Molchak Accidentally Shoots Wife, Fight With Ex-Wife’s Boyfriend Captured On Camera [VIDEO]
Two men involved in a violent confrontation ended with one of them accidentally shooting his wife in the back.
The fight, which took place on Aug. 25 in Chardon Township, Ohio, was caught on camera. Geauga County Sheriff's deputies say Tony Molchak, of Solon, was dropping off his daughter at his ex-wife Diane’s home when he started arguing with her boyfriend, Gary Schussler, KFOR reports.
Tony’s current wife, Shelley Molchak, began recording the confrontation on her cell phone. The video footage shows two men exchange words, which escalates when Molchak throws the first punch. Schussler then draws a gun from a back holster. Schussler drops the gun in a scuffle, and then Molchak grabs the loaded gun, which goes off, shooting his current wife in the back.
"I got the gun now!" Molchak is heard saying.
Shelley Molchak was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, and treated for a collapsed lung, described as a non-life-threatening wound, the News-Herald reports.
“He did what he needed to do to protect himself,” Michael Peterson, Schussler’s attorney, said.
Molchak, who is listed as a global finance manager at Newport Tank Containers, was charged with first-degree misdemeanor assault and third-degree misdemeanor negligent assault. Schussler was charged with using weapons while intoxicated and felony assault.
According to court records, both Molchak and Schussler’s bonds were set for $25,000. If Schussler is found guilty, he could face up to eight years in prison. Molchak could spend eight months in jail, according to the News-Herald.
Molchak’s daughter, who has Down syndrome, was not reportedly present for the violent fight. Schussler’s neighbor, Michael Brown, says this was unusual behavior for his friend.
“I’ve lived next to Gary for 10 years and he’s never done anything irresponsible,” he said.
