Top 25 College Football Rankings: Clemson, LSU, Michigan State Move Up After Wins
After some wild finishes in Week 8, there was a great deal of movement in the latest AP top 25 poll. Two unbeaten teams suffered painful road defeats to unranked opponents on Saturday to lose their places in the top 10.
Utah plummeted from No. 3 in the rankings to No. 13, after the Utes were thumped by USC at the Coliseum. Florida State entered the week as No. 9 and fell to No. 17 after a game-winning field goal attempt turned into a blocked kick and fumble recovery for a touchdown for Georgia Tech on the final play of the game.
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to their grip on the top spot after trouncing Rutgers, while the Baylor Bears remains at No. 2 but lost a few first place votes. Clemson had the biggest jump of any top 10 team, surging into the No. 3 spot after dominating Miami, 58-0. TCU slid down to No. 5 on an idle week while LSU (No. 4), Michigan State (No. 6) and Alabama (No. 7) all moved up one spot after winning their games.
New to the top 10 are Iowa at No. 10 and Notre Dame moving up two spots to No. 9. It was a two-spot jump for No. 11 Florida and No. 12 Oklahoma state while No. 14 Oklahoma jumped three spots.
The three unbeaten schools from the AAC all moved up with Memphis now at No. 16, Houston at No. 18 and Temple to No. 21. Jumping back onto the list after some time off is UCLA at No. 24 and Mississippi State at No. 25. Texas A&M fell out of the poll after losing to No. 19 Ole Miss, who jumped four spots.
