Among the victims of the Syrian uprising are a number of western journalists, the only independent witnesses remaining in the besieged city. Their plight was highlighted after the renowned war correspondent Marie Colvin, 56, and French photographer Remi Ochlik, 28, were both killed when a rocket hit their makeshift media center in the middle of Homs last week.

Following the success of the promoted tweets revenue model, Twitter is going a step further: They're rolling out the same model onto the iOS and Android version of the platform. The promoted tweets feature--which locks a specific tweet to the top of people's feeds--is already available on the mobile website (mobile.twitter.com). The feature will be rolled out in an update to iPhones and Android-based phones over the next few weeks.

Twitter previously allowed companies to search up to 30 days of tweets. Regular users were only able to search through posts from the past seven days.
