Bitsnoop is now more. The company has folded its popular torrent search engine after struggling to rake in its usual web traffic. Despite terminating its website, Bitsnoop decided to still offer its data online with the help of search engine Zooqle.

Last Friday, Bitsnoop put a stop to its website’s operations to the disappointment of its users. The site was apparently popular in the torrent community, and it was even considered as one of the fastest growing torrent sites at the start of the decade. The shutdown comes nine years after its official launch back in 2008.

TorrentFreak reported that prior to terminating its online service, Bitsnoop was still serving around 23,862,834 torrents. In its first year, the site indexed an estimated one million torrents. Through the years, it earned more and more users. Thus, the number prior its shutdown does not come as a surprise to the torrent community.

Bitsnoop broke the news of its shutdown a day before April Fool’s Day, but it’s clear that this is in no way a prank to its users. Visiting the site now would only load a notice saying, “It’s been a nice ride, but all things eventually come to an end. For now check out Zooqle — these guys seem to know their stuff. They took our data and said they will index it eventually.” The page also automatically redirects to Zooqle in a couple of seconds.

Fossbytes stated that the termination of Bitsnoop’s torrent site comes after it suffered a significant drop in its web traffic. This was reportedly a result of the website getting blocked by many ISPs across several countries, including the United Kingdom and Italy.

While Bitsnoop’s demise is sad news to the torrent community, the company’s decision to hand over its data to newcomer Zooqla is something to be thankful for. Zooqla just stared last year and though it is steadily attracting users on its own, this move is expected to help it stand among the top-visited torrent sites in the future.
