Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho proudly put his team’s success over Arsenal into words.

Mourinho and the Spurs prevailed in the north London derby match against Arsenal on Sunday. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son teamed-up for another spectacular goalscoring performance to beat their opponents, 2-0.

After the victory, Mourinho lauded the opposing manager, Mikel Arteta, for being tactical the entire game. The renowned coach admitted that Arsenal gave his team “problems” that they managed to overcome as the contest progressed.

"It was a big game in every sense, not just because it was Tottenham-Arsenal," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "I want to give words, congratulations to Mikel Arteta because he gave us a very difficult game."

"Tactically they were very good, very organized. They gave us problems, problems we were able to resolve. They have a good tactical courage and incredible spirit. They are a good team and he is a good coach."

Despite claiming a decisive win, Mourinho further emphasized that Arsenal forced him to change ploys in the middle of the match. However, the 57-year-old revealed that he intentionally laid back a bit in the closing minutes as his squad was already in a pole position to win.

"We were reading the game and making the changes to win it because 2-0 was in our hands against a great and difficult opponent but my boys did well today,” the award-winning manager explained.

"I am very happy with the result and the performance, but of course I want the team in the second half to play in a different way," he added. "In reality, you don't always do what you want to do because your opponent forces you in a different direction. You are winning 2-0, why would you expose your defensive block if you don't have to? It was a very difficult game.”

On the other hand, Arteta is well aware that the Gunners haven't done a great job in terms of executing their game plan as of late, something the Spaniard believes his team needs to win games.

"Very simple,” the Gunners boss said after the derby defeat. “We need to score goals. If not, it's unsustainable.”

"It doesn't matter what we do in other departments of the pitch, if we don't score goals we can't do nothing,” he continued. “We need to put the ball in the net, urgently."

Tottenham will try to continue its winning streak at home as the team faces Antwerp in the Europa League match on Thursday.
