‘Toy Story’ Writer Andrew Stanton Slams Rumors Andy’s Dad Died Of Polio Before 1995 Film
“Toy Story” writer Andrew Stanton recently slammed rumors that Andy’s dad died of polio prior to the events that took place in the 1995 animated movie.
On his Twitter account, Stanton clarified that no such storyline was ever mentioned in the movie nor was it something that the writers talked about. The “Finding Dory” director also used the hashtag “I was there,” emphasizing that he of all people should know the truth about what happened to Andy’s father.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the story about Andy’s dad first came to light during a Thursday interview with toy reviewer Mike Mozart. He said that he heard the information from former Pixar head writer Joe Ranft, who passed away in 2005. Mozart claimed that Andy’s dad was stricken with polio as a young boy and was re-diagnosed with the illness after he married his wife.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that theories were unearthed over some of the characters in the hit animated film. Earlier this year, Andy’s mom was at the center of speculations that suggested she was the first real owner of Jesse.
While speaking with the Huffington Post, award-winning actor Tom Hanks also reacted to the rumor. “Sounds like a fantastic off-story, a little bit of fan knowledge to me. And I’m sure the folks at Pixar have paid attention to it. I’m not saying such a flashback might happen in the movie, but check it out,” the actor, who voices Woody, said.
Pixar is set to release a fourth installment in the “Toy Story” franchise sometime in 2019. The film will revolve around Woody and Bo Peep’s budding relationship. During an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” (via Us Weekly), “Toy Story” director John Lasseter confirmed the news. In the first three movies, Woody and Bo Peep occasionally flirted with each other, but this is the first time that their real connection will be explored. Bo Peep is being voiced by Annie Potts.
Other love stories featured in the three films included that of Buzz Lightyear and Jesse, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.
