Train Track Therapy Invokes Penalty in Indonesia
These people aren't protesting anything but want to be healed. In the Indonesian town of Rawa Buaya, people believe that electrical energy carried by the railroad tracks can cure disease.
Despite medical professionals stating that there is no evidence that lying on railway lines does any good, many believe that they could be cured.
Alarmed by their belief, authorities have erected a warning sign and are using penalties as a deterrent, even threatening prison sentence of three months or fines of $1,800.
Although the numbers have dropped, there are a determined dozen who feel they have no other option, having lost faith in the state-run health system to help them.
