Three parachutists were injured during a training exercise at Homestead Air Reserve base in southwest Miami-Dade, Florida, on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews reached the base around 4 a.m. EST and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. Reports suggest the injured were either taken to Jackson South Hospital or Ryder Trauma Center. The condition of the injured, however, remained unknown.

NBC 6 reported the parachutists were taking part in an exercise called “halo jump.” They were almost 14,000 feet in the air before opening their parachutes. They shortly hit the ground.

Federal Aviation Administration said the airspace around the base was reserved for exercises from Monday to Thursday. Crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were at the scene. The cause behind the accident was not known.

This is a developing story.
