Transfer News: Atletico Madrid Has No Interest In Giving Up Prolific Right-Back To Man United
KEY POINTS
- Manchester United's chances of getting Kieran Trippier may have just gone up in smoke
- Atletico Madrid is bent on keeping Trippier due to his contributions last season
- The Red Devils are compelled to look for other options
Manchester United appears determined to land Kieran Trippier of Atletico Madrid, but it seems their chances have gotten lower.
According to a report from AS, the Indios have reiterated that they plan to keep the 30-year-old player because he remains a vital cog for Diego Simone.
Hence, the only way the Red Devils can get their hands on the English right-back is if they dangle a huge offer for his services.
Aside from that, Manchester United could also get a chance if Trippier himself formally asks to leave.
As of this writing, there is no clarity if he wants to stay or go.
Trippier’s deal will expire in 2023, and there is a chance he may agree with ATM to leave next summer.
So unless the Red Devils are willing to wait or pitch a huge offer for the English footballer’s services, this option could be off the table.
It is an impending huge blow to Manchester United, who was keen to bring back Trippier to the English Premier League.
Trippier was a vital part of Atletico Madrid’s La Liga triumph last term, but critics feel that he may welcome an opportunity to return to English football.
For the Red Devils, bringing in Trippier was also meant to give Aaron Wan-Bissaka some competition and also allowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to shift to a three-man backline when needed.
If a deal can be sealed, it would give Manchester United more strength and depth. It would be also best to note that the right-back is not seen as a priority.
With this in the air, it may be in Manchester United’s best interest to look for other players available to give Wan-Bissaka some friendly competition.
The 23-year-old started 34 of 38 games for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season.
For now, Manchester United is working on other deals such as the one for Raphael Varane.
Looking ahead, the Red Devils will likely scour the transfer market for another midfielder.
