Transfer News: Dortmund Striker Has Agreed To Personal Terms With Chelsea
KEY POINTS
- Chelsea and Dortmund star Erling Haaland have agreed to personal terms
- Dortmund has over a $211.7 million asking price for Haaland
- Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will weigh his options
As the transfer window continues to progress, Borussia Dortmund’s prolific young striker Erling Haaland has agreed to terms with English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea.
The 20-year-old Norwegian has been drawing interest from many clubs across Europe this summer as his £68 million ($95.9 million) release clause becomes active in the summer of 2022.
The Blues have long been linked to the forward, and recent developments regarding the situation have put them in the lead for signing Haaland.
All they need now to get him to join the club this summer is to agree on a transfer fee.
Therein lies the problem.
Dortmund reportedly has over a £150 million ($211.7 million) asking price for the striker, who has been on an absolute tear in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and head coach Thomas Tuchel have reportedly been quite fond of the striker and his body of work thus far.
A move to the Premier League could potentially make Chelsea a lock in the top four of the standings.
What does this mean for the attacking corps of the reigning UEFA Champions League kings?
Should Abramovich bring out his checkbook and make the deal with Dortmund, Haaland will be joining a highly-talented strikers’ lineup of Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
Werner and midfielder Kai Havertz have struggled to convert scoring opportunities in their first year with the club.
Abraham and Giroud, who had just signed a new contract, could find a new home in order to soften the blow of the potential Haaland deal.
Understandably, Chelsea is still thinking over what to do next.
The future of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is still up in the air, and the Blues may want to consider signing the 27-year-old for lesser fees but with proven scoring ability in the Premier League.
Chelsea has never been this close to signing the young Norwegian, and a splash this summer will definitely help strengthen their run for another Champions League title and to the top of Premier League standings.
