Transfer News: Manchester City Makes Bid For Harry Kane; Tottenham Expected To Reject
KEY POINTS
- Manchester City has reportedly made a $138.2 million bid for Harry Kane
- Tottenham is expected to stand firm on asking price of $165.7 million
- Jose Mourinho says, "I think he (Kane) has to play where he is happy"
Harry Kane’s future with the Tottenham Hotspurs may be coming to an end this summer.
Kane and team chairman Daniel Levy are still at odds with one another, and the striker is more than done with the club.
The prolific English striker has long been linked to English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City as a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who has officially announced that he will be joining La Liga super club, Barcelona, for the upcoming season.
Things may be moving in the right direction for Manchester City as it has reportedly made a £100 million ($138.2 million) bid for Kane according to club sources.
However, Levy and the club are dead serious about keeping Kane in North London.
In a previous report, Levy has stated that he will do “what is right” for the club this summer, despite the team captain growing fed up with Tottenham’s lack of silverware.
It has been widely reported that Tottenham’s asking price of £120 million ($165.7 million) will help greatly in dissuading most clubs from even trying to make a bid for Kane.
Not surprisingly, this doesn’t bother the league champions as Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said after their disappointing UEFA Champions League loss to Chelsea that they are looking to be “competitive and aggressive” during this transfer window and will be on the lookout for players to add in key positions.
For Manchester City, the Aguero-sized hole will be difficult to fill for any single striker.
Other than pursuing Kane, the Citizens are also looking at Borussia Dortmund’s young superstar in Erling Haaland, Belgian standout Romelu Lukaku and Argentinian Lautaro Martinez.
The English national team captain is currently away from home base as he has his attention set squarely on helping England win the Euro 2020.
Kane is not expected to make a decision until the end of the tournament.
In two of the last three seasons, Kane has not been able to play 30 of the last 38 games in the Premier League due to a bothersome ankle injury.
Former Tottenham coach Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts on the future of Kane and had this to say, “I think he has to play where he is happy and I think he’s happy in England. He is a very Premier League guy.”
