Transfer Rumor: Starlet Neymar Cancels High-Profile Move to Real Madrid Over Mourinho’s Hair-Cut Demands, Colonial Mentality
If recent rumors regarding Brazilian starlet Neymar's big move to Real Madrid are to be believed, then talks between the two clubs have broken down over Real boss Jose Mourinho's colonial mentality and his demands that Neymar get a hair-cut before he arrives in Spain, according to Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira.
Oliveira said that he had told Neymar, 19, to end talks with Real as the Santiago Bernabeu-based club and its officials had an unfortunate and arrogant attitude which, according to Oliveira, was typical of a colonial mentality. According to a tribalfootball report, the incident may well have ended Real's possibilities of signing the talented Brazilian.
Previously, Neymar was also linked with Chelsea but the player was reluctant about a move to a relatively more alien culture and was expected to join Madrid on a contract that would see him earn £1 million per month.
In addition to the outright transfer fee, additional image rights and commercial agreements could have seen the deal taking Neymar to Spain reach the £150 million mark; something that would have made the teenager the most expensive player in the world and certainly one of the highest paid footballers - he would have matched Real's Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo's salary.
The incident, perhaps, only goes to show that there really isn't too much love lost between Santos and Real Madrid.
Neymar has made a total of 155 appearances for Santos and has scored 79 times.
