Transfer Rumors: Arsenal, Aston Villa Get Boost With Barca Midfielder Shunning Newcastle
KEY POINTS
- Philippe Coutinho's next stop will not be driven by a huge offer
- Newcastle United is no longer an option for Coutinho
- Aston Villa is in the lead for Coutinho’s services
Arsenal and Aston Villa got hold of a good news with reports that Brazilian target Philippe Coutinho is not interested in moving to Newcastle United.
According to a report from Mundo Portivo, the 29-year-old player would allegedly take a pay cut and move to a team where he will feel welcome.
There was no mention of what team Coutinho had in mind although the Gunners and Villans appear to be top destinations.
Newcastle had allegedly made contact with Barcelona about Coutinho and was ready to offer his current £480,000 ($630,000)-a-week salary.
Unfortunately, money alone may not be enough to convince him to join Eddie Howe and company.
Coutinho is currently on a loan spell and has managed to re-establish himself as a superstar.
He has gained the attention of multiple Premier League teams with his showing this season.
So far, he has been responsible for seven goals for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Coutinho is reportedly open to staying with the Villans, a team that has an option to sign him for £33.8 million ($44.4 million).
Although money is a big problem that most teams are dealing with, it appears that such will not be a driving factor to help Coutinho decide on where he may end up.
Rather, it seems the Brazilian is more interested in the direction of teams.
Newcastle was ready to pay huge money to Coutinho although this is hardly surprising with the backing they are getting.
The new owners are ready to make a financial splurge, but there are players who prefer to start winning now.
Barcelona is expected to shop Coutinho as they try to address their financial issues.
Once he is dealt with a new team, it would free up any financial obligation on the part of the Catalans.
His new lease on life has helped as well, something credited to the efforts of Gerrard.
