  • Arsenal looks to overtake Manchester United in the race for Ruben Neves
  • Arsenal looks to negotiate the Wolves' asking fee for Neves
  • The Gunners continue to skim the transfer market this summer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta continues to look for a suitable addition to his lineup, and it appears he has his sights on Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton.

The Gunners have extended a contract offer to the Portuguese midfielder, and both sides are now engaged in talks.

If both come to terms, a potential summer transfer could happen soon, Record reported.

Neves has come into his own with the Wolves and is under contract until 2024, The Athletic reported.

He is valued at £45 million ($62.5 million), but Arsenal FC hopes to bring down those figures.

If successful, the 24-year-old football player would be the next key signing of Arteta. The Gunners recently completed the signing of Nuno Tavares.

An exodus of players from the Emirates Stadium is expected this summer. Also reportedly on the way out are Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira.

This impending development has forced the hand of Arteta to skim the market for new talent to man the midfield.

Arsenal is not the only club after Neves. Manchester United has also been linked to the left-back, also looking for a new central midfielder to take over from Nemanja Matic.

Aside from that, Paul Pogba is also in the final year of his contract with the Red Devils.

Hence, it seems only right that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for young blood to fill in the position.

Neves has been a revelation since arriving in Wolverhampton from FC Porto in 2017. He has churned out solid performances over the past three years, a reason why the Red Devils and Gunners have him on their radar.

If he ends up joining Arsenal, Neves is expected to work closely with Thomas Partey in the midfield. He would take over from Xhaka, who is set to move to Roma in a five-year deal.
