KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal needs more players to help boost their sagging campaign
  • Martinez and Aouar are potential targets for Arsenal in the next transfer window
  • Gravenberch is a young player that could be an investment for Arsenal’s future

Arsenal spent heftily this transfer window when it added new faces in the fold.

That list includes Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Aaron Ramsdale, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares, all of whom landed at the Emirates Stadium in the last transfer window.

In total, the Gunners spend a whopping £148 million ($204.7 million) for the new faces in the mix.

But despite that heavy investment, Arsenal has not exactly performed accordingly. In fact, they find themselves at the bottom of the English Premier League table.

Hence, the possibility of seeing Arsenal go after a player in the January transfer window. With several players whose contracts are winding down, there are three names worth noting. They are Lautaro Martinez, Houssem Aouar and Ryan Gravenberch.

Martinez is no stranger when it comes to Arsenal. He was linked to the Gunners and Tottenham but nothing transpired. With players like Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku getting moved, speculations arose that the Argentine striker would follow.

Nothing materialized, but there is that possibility that the Gunners may try again in January.

Aside from Martinez, there is also Aouar who had previous links to Arsenal. It has been going on for a couple of years, but nothing came close to a deal being struck.

Contract negotiations between the French national and Lyon could happen through the course of the season.

But until that happens, he is a player that could make sense for Gunners–after several years of trying.

Lyon reportedly wanted a £53 million ($73.31 million) for Aouar last summer, but nothing transpired. If no contract extension is signed, the French midfielder could be available at a more reasonable price.

A third target for the Gunners could be Gravenberch. He is only 19-years-old and is a promising young player that could be an investment for the future.

Gravenberch has already made his mark by establishing himself as a regular for Ajax and the Netherlands.

With the potential that he has shown, Ajax is likely to try and extend his stay.

But in the event they fail to come to terms, he would be an interesting pickup for Arsenal this January--but at the right price.
