KEY POINTS

  • Barcelona may revisit the chance to acquire Raheem Sterling in the next transfer window
  • Barca has the financial flexibility due to a loan deal with Atletico Madrid for Antoine Griezmann
  • Guardiola is expected to utilize Sterling more after an impressive outing against Southampton

Barcelona tried to get Raheem Sterling of Manchester City in the last transfer window but came up short.

However, there is a chance that the Catalans may try again in January especially now that the 26-year-old has been playing a reduced role.

If this continues, it could make sense for Barca to look into the possibility of getting Sterling once more a few months from now, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Furthermore, the report claimed that the Blaugranas are now ready to give in to the Sky Blues' demands for the English footballer.

It is also worth noting that Sterling has reportedly given the thumbs up for any potential transfer.

Barcelona has been in a financial bind the past months although Atletico Madrid's loan with an obligation to buy of Antoine Griezmann was able to free up some funds.

But the big question here is whether the Citizens are open to moving Sterling. With most of their regulars down due to varying injuries, he has been given the chance to show what he can do.

Based on his performance against Southampton in last Saturday’s draw, it appears Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is pretty impressed.

“He was so active in terms of movement, but football depends a lot on how good we do the process in the build-up, and when it happens, our strikers and wingers play better and our attacking midfielders play better,” the Sky Blues boss said about Sterling in that scoreless draw.

Sterling’s future with the Sky Blues may get an added boost soon. Manchester City is set to take on the Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday, September 21 with Guardiola forced to turn to academy players and seldom-used veterans in the lineup.

Sterling is one of those players expected to be used, one of the few alternatives that Guardiola has right now as covered in a previous report.

That chance could dictate his next trajectory with Manchester City. In addition, the exposure could benefit the English winger as far as determining his market value.
