KEY POINTS

  • Kylian Mbappe may be looking into staying with Paris Saint-Germain after all
  • Mbappe reportedly asked PSG for a transfer out in order to give them some compensation for his departure
  • A move to Real Madrid would be ideal for Mbappe's career as he will be paired up with Vinicius Junior

The future of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe remains up in the air moving forward, but he has given a somewhat vague update as to what he plans on doing next amid rumors of a transfer.

Speaking with Amazon Prime, Mbappe admitted that he still does not know what he plans to do next but may have hinted that staying might not be so bad.

“It is not easy. Either way, I'll be playing for a big club. At first, I was disappointed [not to leave]. But well, I am not in the third division, I am in a club that wants to win the Champions League. I am Parisian, I have my family, I feel good, I have always said it. I just wanted to discover something else,” Mbappe said as quoted by Goal.

The 22-year-old French national is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2022 as his current contract only runs until then.

Paris Saint-Germain has been doing its best to convince Mbappe to remain at the Parc des Princes but has had difficulty in doing so.

In early October, Mbappe admitted that he asked for a transfer in the summer because he did not want to leave the French side high and dry on a free transfer.

A dream move to the Santiago de Bernabeu with Real Madrid has been high on his list since the arrival of Lionel Messi essentially guaranteed that it would not completely be his team anymore.

To Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino’s credit, he has steered the club towards success the top of the French Ligue 1 with an 11-point lead over second-place Stade Rennais.

Mbappe also added some comments regarding the three-headed attacking group composed of him, Messi and Brazilian superstar Neymar.

“We’re aware that we need to do more. When you have three players of that level, you can’t hide from it. We need to do the things that keep us together as a collective. We each have to do our bit,” Mbappe stated.

If an extension could not be agreed upon between Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid will surely go all in on stealing Mbappe on a free transfer as they lack a superstar forward that they can lean on for the future.

Karim Benzema and Eden Hazard are entering the tail-end of their primes, and 19-year-old Vinicius Junior needs to have his running mate.

An Mbappe-Vinicius combo would certainly work wonders for Real Madrid’s one-two scoring punch once Benzema and Hazard inevitably start declining.
