  • Liverpool are expected to seal the deal before the deadline day
  • The other clubs chasing Kai Havertz are Man Utd, Barca and Bayern
  • Liverpool are currently on the top of the Premier League table

Liverpool FC are reportedly planning to beat Manchester United in the signing of Bundesliga young star Kai Havertz ahead of the January transfer deadline.

The other top-flight clubs that are believed to be chasing Havertz are FC Barcelona and Bayern Munch. The 20-year-old midfielder is one of the most promising players in Europe, having done well for Bayer Leverkusen in the recent season.

In the ongoing 2019-20 season, Havertz has netted three goals and provided an assist in as many as 21 matches across competitions.

The German footballer could have left Leverkusen last summer but chose to stay because the club had qualified for the Champions League. Recent news reports suggest that Havertz’s attitude has changed and he could well be looking for a Premier League move soon.

The Spanish media house Mundo Deportivo reported that Liverpool are prepared to ‘bet heavily’ on the midfielder even though they recently signed Redbull Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino.

The Reds are expected to make an offer of $140 million as Jurgen Klopp wants to further strengthen the squad ahead of the crucial final leg of the season.

Meanwhile, even Man Utd reportedly have contacted Bayer Leverkusen regarding Havertz’s future details. Irrespective of which club manages to sign him, the young player sure has a bigger platform waiting for him in the coming months.

It is understood that Premier League leaders are keen on signing Havertz, with Adam Lallana likely to leave Anfield this summer looking for more starting opportunities. Even the likes of James Milner and Georgino Wijnaldum could well be out at the end of the current season and that's when Klopp would need more options for the midfield.

Man Utd, who are still in a rebuilding phase, are currently fifth on the Premier League table, while their arch-rivals Liverpool are on the top with a game in hand. The Reds have not lost a league game this season and their only draw ironically came at Old Trafford last October.
