Transfer Rumors: Man United Gets Boost With Update On Midfielder's Contract Extension Talks
KEY POINTS
- Manchester United is close to sealing a contract extension with Bruno Fernandes
- The Red Devils would like to keep their top players for years to come
- Jesse Lingard's error costs Manchester United's match against Young Boys
Manchester United is certainly looking good this season, packed with manpower that makes them a team to beat this year.
Part of that is the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho in the summer. But looking ahead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows that the key to sustaining success is keeping vital players that fit into the plans of the Red Devils.
It appears another piece may be staying at Old Trafford for years to come. Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the status of Bruno Fernandes, baring that contract extension talks have started.
Romano claimed that an agreement could be very, very close to happening.
It remains to be seen when the outcome of these talks would be closed. But with Romano alleging that it is close to happening, the development is something that should keep Manchester United very competitive in the years to come.
Should a new contract be sealed with the 27-year-old midfielder, it would hardly be a surprise. Fernandes has been shining at Old Trafford since arriving in 2020.
The Portuguese have provided the wards of Solskjaer a big boost despite having a pretty talented core.
Aside from Ronaldo and Sancho, other notable names include Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
With that roster, there is no denying Manchester United could come away with several trophies and end their four-season long drought.
In their latest match, the Red Devils bowed to the Young Boys 2-1, despite holding the lead after just 13 minutes. This was courtesy of Ronaldo who scored off an assist from Fernandes.
But things took a different twist at halftime. The Red Devils went into the half-time break with only 10 men after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was taken out due to a nasty tackle.
It took a toll heavily on Manchester United, allowing the European minnows to claw their way back. They drew abreast following Moumi Ngamaleu's goal at the 66th-minute mark.
Jesse Lingard also made a costly error when he opted to play a back-pass and ended up playing the balls straight into Jordan Siebatcheu, who scored the marginal goal at the fifth minute of injury time, the Guardian reported.
