  • Newcastle United seeks to edge out Arsenal and Liverpool for Jonathan David
  • David could boost the offensive firepower that the Magpies are sorely lacking
  • Newcastle needs to create a good impression to draw the interest of several top players

Newcastle United hardly got the assets they needed in the January transfer window, but the Magpies can try again this coming summer.

This early, it appears they have their eyes set on Canadian forward Jonathan David.

This means that there are now at least three teams chasing the 22-year-old for his signature. The other teams in the pursuit are Liverpool and Arsenal, Jeunes Footeux reported.

One thing about the Magpies as far as their chase for top-notch players is concerned is that they lack the credibility to attract high-profile or promising players.

But seeing that Newcastle has now racked up three straight wins in their last five outings, that is subject to change.

For as long as they stay the course, there is a big chance that the cause of Eddie Howe will have a different effect on players who could be available in the next transfer window.

Having said that, David and other players looking to move to a new team could take a second look.

But as far as the American-born player is concerned, the Magpies may need all the luck in the world to ease out the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

This season, David has scored 16 goals across all competitions, 12 of them in Ligue 1.

If money is to factor in, most know that the Magpies have the funds to spend.

In the January transfer window, it was reported that it would take about £30 million ($40.7 million) to secure the services of the Canadian footballer.

Regardless, it appears David would not mind moving to the English Premier League if the opportunity is there and it makes sense.

“What happens next, we’ll see. The Premier League attracts everyone. It is the most competitive championship in the world. It’s a very good championship,” David said in a report from Jeunes Footeux.

If they can find a way to secure him, David would be a huge addition to the Magpies.

Newcastle is looking for more offensive sock with Callum Wilson hardly getting anything going coming off an injury.
