Frontier joins Delta, American, United, and Jet Blue in requiring passengers on its flights to wear face masks, but the airline is also requiring a health check for travelers before they can board its planes.

Staring on June 1, Frontier will implement temperature screenings for passengers, preventing anyone that has a temperature of 110.4 degrees or higher from boarding. Travelers will be screened with a touchless thermometer before they are allowed to board a flight.

If a passenger has a temperature that exceeds 100.4 degrees, they will be given time to rest, and a second temperature check will be given. If the passenger’s temperature is still 100.4 degrees or higher, they will be denied boarding.

Frontier said it will work to rebook the passenger’s travel for a later date or accommodate the passenger according to their personal travel preferences.

Employees at Frontier will also be required to have their temperatures checked before starting their shift and will not be allowed to work if their temperature reads 100.4 degrees or higher. Employees of the airline will also be required to wear face masks when working.

“The health and safety of everyone flying Frontier is paramount and temperature screenings add an additional layer of protection for everyone onboard,” Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle, said in a statement. “This new step during the boarding process, coupled with face coverings and elevated disinfection procedures, will serve to provide Frontier customers an assurance that their well-being is our foremost priority and we are taking every measure to help them travel comfortably and safely.”

Frontier also enacted a face-covering requirement for all passengers that went into effect on Friday. The company also now boards from the rear of the plane to the front and recommends six feet of separation between passengers when boarding.

The new measures come as Frontier takes proactive steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The company said it also uses hospital-grade HEPA filters, state-of-the air filtration technology, increased disinfectant procedures, and added anti-bacterial soap on its planes.
