Rapper Travis Scott has made his devastation clear in a tweet today regarding the events that transpired at his Astroworld music festival in Houston on Friday night, where a crowd surge left eight people dead and several others injured.

"My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival," he said in the tweet. "Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need," he included.

The incident occurred at around 9:15 PM local time, as Fire Chief Samuel Peña described the scene, saying "the crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage...That caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries. People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic".

He also clarified that the cause of death was still unknown for the victims but would soon be established.

About 50,000 people were at the event at NRG Park, hosted by Scott. The festival, currently in its third year, started on Friday and was supposed to last two days, but officials confirm that Saturday's lineup had been canceled.
