Tristan Thompson is starting the new year with a public apology to ex Khloe Kardashian.
The 30-year-old NBA player issued the apology to Kardashian, with whom he shares 3-year-old daughter True, via Instagram Stories Monday and confirmed that he fathered a child with another woman while they were still dating last year.
"Today, paternity test results reveal that I fathered a child with Maralee Nichols," Thompson wrote.
Nichols filed a lawsuit against Thompson in California last year, saying he is the father of her newborn son. The athlete admitted in court documents that they had sex on his birthday in March 2021 during a "hookup."
In his Monday post, Thompson said he takes "full responsibility" and plans to "amicably" raise his son with Nichols after paternity was established.
"I sincerely apologize to everyone I've hurt or disappointed throughout this ordeal both publicly and privately," he added.
In a subsequent post, Thompson apologized to Kardashian directly, writing that the reality star doesn't "deserve this."
"You don't deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you. You don't deserve the way I have treated you over the years. My actions certainly have not lined up with the way I view you," he wrote. "I have the utmost respect and love for you. Regardless of what you may think. Again, I am so incredibly sorry."
Kardashian has not publicly commented on his apology.
Page Six reported in June last year that Kardashian and the Sacramento Kings player had ended their relationship once more amid new rumors that he was unfaithful. The pair first split in 2019 after Thompson was linked to Kylie Jenner's close pal Jordyn Woods, but they got back together more than a year later while quarantining with their daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month, an unnamed source told People that Kardashian "is moving on" from Thompson and that the two exes are "focused on co-parenting" their daughter True amid the paternity lawsuit.
Nichols previously told E! News that Thompson told her he was single and co-parenting when they got involved. She added that she is not looking for "a romantic relationship" with the basketball player.
"My goal is to raise our son in a safe, healthy, loving and private environment," she said in a statement.
Thompson also shares a 5-year-old son, Prince, with ex-girlfriend Jordan Craig.
