Trump Announces Mysterious ‘Super Duper Missile’ As Pentagon Remains Mum About Weapon
President Trump on Friday unveiled the official flag for Space Force, the sixth and newest branch of the U.S. Military.
During the event, Trump set the media abuzz after a strange boast about a “super duper” new missile that will allegedly be 17 times faster than anything else in the country’s current arsenal.
“We are building, right now, incredible military equipment at a level that nobody has ever seen before,” Trump said. “We have no choice. We have to do it -- with the adversaries we have out there. We have a – I call it the ‘super-duper missile.’ And I heard the other night, 17 times faster than what they have right now.”
Despite Trump's very public claims, the Pentagon has so far been unwilling to confirm or comment on the existence of this missile. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany deflected media inquiries about the weapon to the Department of Defense, which declined to comment.
“We will not discuss capabilities of any systems we may or may not have under development,” the Pentagon’s Lt. Col. Robert Carver said in a statement to CNN.
The closest anyone came to addressing the matter was Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman’s tweet about hypersonic missiles currently in the works. The statement did not explicitly address Trump’s claim. These hypersonic missiles are defined as such since they are said to be over five times the speed of sound.
“The Department of Defense is working on developing a range of hypersonic missiles to counter our adversaries,” Hoffman tweeted following Trump's claims.
The Space Force is the first new branch added to the U.S. military since the Air Force in 1947. The other branches are made up of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
