KEY POINTS

  • The December Fox News poll finds 50 percent of voters nationwide want Trump impeached and removed from office
  • Another four percent want Trump impeached but not removed. A further 41 percent oppose impeaching Trump altogether.
  • A new high of 45 percent of independents favor impeachment, a huge seven point climb from 38 in the October Fox News poll
  • Trump blasts Fox News for poll results: 'So ridiculous'

Fox News downplayed the results of its most recent poll that again confirms most Americans want president Donald Trump both impeached and removed from office after a Senate trial.

Conducted from December 8 to 11, the poll finds 50 percent of registered voters nationwide want Trump impeached and removed from office. Another four percent say Trump must be impeached but not removed, while 41 percent oppose impeaching him altogether. A new high of 45 percent of independents favor impeachment, up seven points from 38 in the October Fox News poll.

The poll also reveals 53 percent of voters believe Trump abused the power of his office. It shows 48 percent think Trump obstructed Congress and 45 percent say he committed bribery.

However, instead of highlighting these numbers, the Fox News website chose to focus on the numbers favorable to the President. It headlined its story, "Fox News Poll: Trump job approval ticks up, views on impeachment steady."

The story said its poll shows weeks of congressional hearings haven't moved the electorate on impeachment but approval of Trump’s job performance has climbed three points. It noted voter views on impeachment have remained steady over the past weeks. Those that want to impeach and remove Trump increased only by one percent while all other statistics remained the same.

This outcome is almost similar to results uncovered by Fox News previous poll in late October. This poll found 49 percent in favor of impeachment and removal, 4 percent supporting only impeachment, and 41 percent opposing both.

Despite Fox News' focus on the positive, Trump took a dim view of the results of its latest poll. He blasted the TV station in a tweet.

“The @foxnewPolls, always inaccurate, are heavily weighted toward Dems. So ridiculous - same thing happened in 2016. They got it all wrong. Get a new pollster!”

He later said, “Both Commiecast MSNBC & Fake News CNN are watching their Ratings TANK. Don’t know why @FoxNews wants to be more like them? They’ll all die together as other outlets take their place. Only pro Trump Fox shows do well. Rest are nothing.”

Other results of the December Fox poll reveal 85 percent of Democrats favor impeaching and removing Trump from office. A full 84 percent of Republicans oppose these options. Here are the other poll results:

  • By a 60 to 24 percent margin, voters say it's wrong for Trump to ask leaders of foreign countries to investigate his domestic political rivals.
  • Only about one in five respondents, or 22 percent, think U.S. presidents typically ask leaders of other countries to investigate domestic political rivals.
  • 47 percent believe Trump delayed military aid to pressure Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden.
  • 52 percent say the Trump administration hasn’t cooperated enough with the impeachment inquiry.
  • 45 percent say congressional Democrats are running the inquiry fairly versus 42 percent that don't think so.
