Is Trump Cured Of Coronavirus? Doctor Says POTUS May Return To Public Engagements
KEY POINTS
- Trump's doctor announced the president has completed his coronavirus treatment
- The physician also said the president is ready to return to "public engagements"
- Trump said he had not been tested recently, but claims he is "essentially clean"
President Donald Trump's physician confirmed Thursday that he has completed his coronavirus treatment and expects him to return to "public engagements" as soon as Saturday.
In a memo released by the White House, Dr. Sean Conley noted that Saturday would be the tenth day since Trump's coronavirus diagnosis. He also said he anticipates the President's safe return to public engagements over the weekend.
"Saturday will be day ten since Thursday's diagnosis, and based on the trajectory of advanced diagnostics the team has been conducting, I fully anticipate the President's safe return to public engagements at that time," Conley wrote.
The Navy commander also said that Trump responded "extremely well" to the course of therapy and said they found no sign of adverse effects. However, Conley failed to mention when the President's last negative test happened before he was found positive for the coronavirus, CNN noted.
The latest memo comes after Trump's interview with Fox Business, where he claimed he is not contagious anymore and that he is ready to host campaign rallies. He also said he now has immunity from COVID-19.
The President revealed he had not been tested recently, but said he is "essentially very clean."
"No, I'll be tested very soon, but I'm essentially very clean. They say it's over a period of six, seven days," Trump said.
"I think I'm better ... to a point where I'd love to do a rally tonight. I wanted to do one last night. I feel perfect. There's nothing wrong," he added.
According to guidelines released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people infected with the coronavirus are required to wait for ten days after their symptoms first appear before they are safe to be around others. They also have to be fever-free for 24-hours without the help of fever-reducing drugs.
While getting COVID-19 may give patients some protection from reinfection, scientists have yet to fully determine how strong the immunity is and how long it lasts.
Hours before Conley's memo was sent out, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi teased the 25th Amendment about removing Trump from the Oval Office. Her proposal, which will establish a panel to determine the President's fitness for office, would likely be revealed on Friday.
